Good approach for sustainable world

Changes have been made in preschool education, basic education, and secondary education programs in Turkey by the Ministry of National Education of Turkey as of 2024 with the title of Maarif Model of the Turkish Century. In the curriculum, the Virtue-Value-Action framework, conceptual skills, physical skills, field skills, literacy skills, social-emotional skills, and tendencies were structured so that they were included in more detail in the program. The updated program is being implemented at certain grade levels but has not been disseminated yet. As for teacher training programs, changes occurred in 2018 and the Council of Higher Education transferred authority to the faculties that train teachers. The decision that the development and updating of the teaching undergraduate programs of the Faculties of Education can be carried out by the relevant higher education institutions, taking into account the Teaching Profession Qualifications determined by the Ministry of National Education within the Framework of the Qualifications of Turkey, some faculties of education in our country have redesigned their teaching programs. I think the program updates in 2024 will also be reflected in the programs at the faculties of education.

At this point, I think it is important to link the sustainable development goals with various disciplines. In teaching courses such as science, social studies, life science, human rights, and democratic citizenship education, teachers of the future should be taught taking into account sustainable development goals. These goals can be given with an interdisciplinary approach instead of a separate course in the curriculum. Current reports published by the United Nations, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and current educational reports published by UNESCO should be included in the educational processes and we should have questioning, critical, and solution-oriented discussions with teacher candidates. At this point, I think that the studies related to citizenship education and human rights are very important. Because it seems that there are situations where the practical knowledge about equal opportunities in education cannot be transferred from theory to practice. It seems that there is a need for practical studies related to education in the world. Studies that reveal, identify, or describe situations are very valuable, but nowadays it seems important to take an active role and implement various action plans to identify, identify, or solve more practice-oriented problems.
