My thesis advisor gathered some Ulva sp. and Fucus vesiculosus for our amphipod stock and we found these little guys roamming around.
They were gathered in the rocky shores of Cascais, on the western Portuguese coast.
Does anyone have a quick idea of what species this is?

From what I've read about C. laevisculus it seems very likely that these belong to that species. What amazes me is that I cannot find any photographs of that species with this kind of colour pattern (strong dark purple with greyish-green spots).

Indeed, Hyale has to be checked as well. Hyale and Calliopius are easily to distinguish on the telson, uropod 3, gnathopods and others. Unfortunately, I can not these details on the given image. Francisco, please use Lincoln or Ruffo et al. to be sure which species you have.
