Many researchers use the kits for measuring biochemical parameters and human hormones in measuring the same parameters and hormones in laboratory animals of various species. I would like to know the accuracy of the results that will be obtained and whether these results are realistic?
Thank you doctor for your good question, there was a recently research paper about measuring the suitability of human kits (liver enzymes, lipid profile and total protein) in ovine, they found that human kits are suitable and the accuracy between 67 to 100% for more details the research doi is (10.1292/jvms.18-0356). Moreover, there is a wide acceptance about using of human kits for steroid and thyroid hormones in rodents, while, the peptide and protein hormones depended on homology of protein between species.
Measuring peptide hormones with non-specific kits is not valid, although you may gain digits.
Steroidal hormones such as cortisol and thyroid hormones can be measured by human kits. However, if you want to establish baselines for blood parameters you must use specific kits

In my animal studies, I have also used human test kits. This is fully justified when studying the indicators in dynamics on the same animals. The research methods themselves may differ (different units of measurement), so it is difficult to compare such results.
