Retention of concepts and skills in traditional and reformed applied calculus

Dear Kimberleigh, Thank you for your question. It raises an important issue we face in research, in submitted PhD, or Masters thesis, grant applications and others. Authors many times make several errors in citing the literature. I do not know what type of mistakes did they do. They many times, state a different meaning to what the original authors meant, totally twist the message, cite the wrong papers but the correct author, or make errors in the list of references.
If you feel that you want to make your voice clear and document the error and correct what was done, mainly if the error twist what you meant, I suggest writing a letter to the Editor (to be considered for publication). But do not focus only on the error you observed, read the paper several times, and most likely you will discover 2 or 3 other errors. Then think about how you can turn things into an educational letter that can benefit the readers and also the authors. Edit your letter before submitting it and ask colleagues to read it from a neutral perspective. In your letter, cite the correct reference and if sentences were twisted indicate what the correct statement is. Use evidence to support your views, and watch for the tone of the letter and the benefit to the whole readership. I hope this helps you. Best of luck. Prof S Azer
