I am looking for a feed-product percent (%) to modulate a distillation tower for the recovery of acetic acid from a water solution (acetic acid-water: 15-85%)?
no problem. it is straight forward and no azeotrope at room conditions is detected by aspen + simulation software. but the boiling points are 118 and 100 C and adjusting reboiler temperature requires attention.
Dear Mohamed, although it is possible to distillate acetic acid from water, the relative volatility is so low that you will need several stages and a high reflux ratio to get that. This way is common to make a liquid- liquid extraction before and distillate the extracted reducing energy consumption and process costs. The literature is rich in this subject.
Elsewhere at this forum, I have signalled some references on the topic of suitable methods for acetic acid recovery from aqueous solutions: https://www.researchgate.net/post/How_to_remove_acetic_acid_from_solution_containing_glucose_xylose_and_acetic_acid
