I want to study isothermal oxidation of ceramics. Because of that i want keep the samples with crucibles when it reaches to 1500C. Is any cracks will form at that temperature?
Normally Al2O3 crucibles should be able to withstand the temperature but since this is a ceramic which is vulnarable to crack formation always heat-up/cool down slowly these crucibles. Thermal and mechanical shocks should be prevented.
If you want added thermal shock resistance and stability try using a mullite crucible instead (3Al203.2SiO2). Much better than Alumina. Lots of suppliers available in the market. You want the interlocking needle shaped structure for your application. Excellent thermal shock resistance.
