We can test the nitrogen uptake framing two different experiment s separately, if possible

There is a technique by which you could control the spread of extraradical hyphae of mycorrhizal fungi or the fine roots of the host plant using polyvinyl chloride mesh cores with different sizes of mesh.  This will allow the mycorrhizal roots (mycorrhizosphere treatment) or extraradical hyphae to access nutrients in different compartments of a rooting zone (e.g. experimental pot).  Please see the following paper as an example:
