Wild type strain genome is available however only transcriptomic of the Itaconic acid producer is sequenced (PRJNA296012). It depends on what you are looking for but from my experience, transcriptomic is a good resource. If the authors found out genes highly expressed in conditions related to Itaconic acid, you may clone and sequence them from your strain. Its still sequencing the strain is the easiest way to find out your PKS or gene clusters related to the pathway otherwise you may spend a while to clone the genes meanwhile another group is already working to publish them.
