I think this cannot be changed to a Gmail address. However, there is a simple alternative if you rarely check your institutional email: You can add your institutional email to your Gmail account via browser directly. The same goes for your mobile device: Use the Gmail app or another app like"Email" to add/consolidate all your email accounts together in one place.
