I noticed so much research being focused and funded for neuro studies lately compared to other diseases. Is there geo-political or economic reason other than health reason itself?
If you look at cancer research, and try to compare it to any other diseases, their funding and budgets are always like ten times more. There is no reasons for research coming from epidemiology or health my friend, not even logic, it is always political and economical........
Thank you for all opinions and feed backs, but i a m still puzzled by the increase of this study. Not that i against it, of course we welcome any research for greater good of human health. In Malaysia for example the increase of autism among babies are increasing but not so much research done in this area, but perhaps in Europe, UK or US more research being done, so i suspect it s reflection of the neurological disorder of the regional population?
Zaidah Ibrahim, Isn't it still more puzzling why all these studies don't take note of the pertinent postmortem and in vivo evidence proving unique to the condition's pathology, e.g. that given at www.ms-info.net ?
Neurology as a separate specialty was created by Jean Marie Charcot in the latter part of the 19th century. compared to say cardiology, neurology is still at a stage where cardiology was about 70 to 100 years ago. we are just feeling the water of the ocean that is neurology. Take Stroke for example. there is only one thrombolytic for acute strokes and it has to be given within 3 hours and in some cases unto 4.5 hours. it is the third leading cause of death and the number one cause of disability. this drug Alteplase came out in 1995, in the USA, and there has been no other since then. the vascular interventions are a new phenomenon, about 15 years old and are limited to large and medium size arteries only. in the USA alone there are about 850,000 strokes per year! this is the golden age of neurology and we are so fortunate to be witnessing it and should try to participate in it. the previous one was just after Charcot created the field of neurology. thanks.
The golden age of neurology is still round the corner, Mustafa Ali Khan.
This profession still perpetuates the errors which brought Charcot to fame - while shunning from taking a closer look at the pathological changes which he ingeniously selected to become masterly illustrated - please take just a look at the plate he inserted at the end of his pupils Leopod Ordenstein's thesis of 1967!
