i'm going to prepare activated carbon from date nuts and these nuts are oily the question is : is extraction of oil before preparation activated carbon is necessary or not( i mean is this oil may effect on my activated carbon especially on Surface area)
Before obtaining activated charcoal, you, apparently, will grind the nuts. The oil will promote grinding and will not degrade its adsorption properties.
Preparing an activated carbon with or without washing the raw material will obviously change the results. You might do both and compare. Pyrolysing directly a biomass full of oil will make your reactor very dirty, but the process will be more comfortable. On the other hand, Soxhlet extraction of the oil will avoid this and probably will produce more pores, and hence a higher surface area at the end, but is one more step.

Please note that the raw material being used by you to produce adsorbent by you in the lab must be cleaned washed and completely dried.If this nuts are oily you will not get desired characteristics of the activated carbon.
If you intend to compare the powdered activated carbon(PAC) available in the market and one that has been produced by you, you must completely dry and then convert into powdered form. You may either adopt by chemical activation or thermal activation method.

Avoiding pre-treatment it is possible but assure you have proper pipe size in your activation reactor. During the carbonization process you have the release of evaporated oil in the output stream (with tar and other compounds). Those typically condense and stick quite easily forming an occlusion if the size of the pipe is not big enough. So in my opinion just check your hardware to avoid risks. About the surface there can be a difference and I suggest you to verify it but consider that at the normal activating temperature (around 800C) most of the oil is thermally decomposed.
