I have used general contact with internal surfaces included in definition. Also VUMAT is tested for single element model and results are as expected.
I think you can use one of the following to overcome this problem:
1. increase the normal stiffness (KN) of the interface element
2. Use surface-to-surface contact element (Master & slave) elements
3. Make sure that the element subjected to impact is the Target element (Master) element.

Sir thanks for reply, I have one doubt though. Since I am giving general contact with interior surfaces included in definition. So if i give cohesive definitions as you suggested, won't those be superseded as I give general contact? Also I believe surface to surface contact doesn't allow erosion of internal faces.
