I have problem with ethylene carbona (EC). It's well known that it will be crystallize about 34 degree celcius. But las time I used the EC, after I used it not freeze.. Can anyone help me description about this...?
Achmad Prayogi to my knowledge the melting point of ethylene carbonate is 36 °C. There could be different reasons why it stays liquid and doesn't freeze. One possible reasons is that is is undercooled and crystal seeds are not present. The melting point is also greatly influenced by minor impurities. Small amounts e.g. of water or other solvents can lead to a significant decrease of the melting point. To be on the safe side, you should perhaps purify your ethylene carbonate by fractional distillation.
