The experiment I conducted was using NAPQI treated HepG2 cells. I dissolved the NAPQI in DMSO. I did have a vehicle control and it did show the DMSO had not effect of the cells, but the NAPQI was not as toxic as I thought it would be. I am just wondering if DMSO can act as an antioxidant, could this be why NAPQI was not as toxic?

In my experience DMSO has very little effect on cells in concentrations of up to 0.2% in the medium. I worked with the variety of inhibitors of cell signaling and metabolic pathways. Definition of "very toxic" in vivo and in vitro can be very different too. Hope it helps.

DMSO could act as antioxidant depending on your experimental environment.
Back in the day I remember DMSO was used as a spin trap-However HepG2 are quite resilient little cells,and may offer some resistence to NAPQI damage. . Again in the 1980's NAPQI at a dose of about 200uM caused hepatocyte blebbing...Good luck with your project.
