The Managerial Cognition is an independent variable, in my research framework. Please suggest if Kirton's Adaptors Innovators Inventory (32 items) can be used to operationalize the variable? Any other valid constructs, if its not recommended?
Maybe this helps: ENVIRONMENTAL CONTEXT, MANAGERIAL COGNITION, AND STRATEGIC ACTION: AN INTEGRATED VIEW (SUCHETA NADKARNI and PAMELA S. BARR) Strategic Management Journal, 29: 1395–1427 (2008); it has not direct variables, but maybe you can derive them.
KAI as the name suggests --please see Kirton's Original work -- is an attempt at determining style ADOPTED or tend to be used viz, the style of an adaptor or that of an innovator that a person adopts. It does not address, in my view how a person sees things and behaves. I am a hands-on, innovator but I do adopt and adapt some ideas from others.I am curious as to how you would perform the analysis, assuming you have been able to suitably operationalize MC.
Thank you everyone for the help. Phil, the Kirton's AI inventory was developed to measure the cognitive styles related to creativity, problem solving and decision making. You are right that KAI alone does not give the complete picture of how a person sees things and behave, therefore it has to be used with other variables that can help in assessing the same. That's why the question was posted here if someone has prior experience of using the KAI inventory in this context. You may like to refer to the article below for KAI construct. Bagozzi, R.
