This was buried in a ravine by Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. It appeared to be made of leather or sinew. The ball is very tightly bound and hard like a rock. I thought it was a weapon. I would like to know what it is, who may have made it, and what time period it likely comes from.

I appreciate any help identifying it.
