I have tried fracturing the composite and looking at the fractured edge. I was wondering about burning out the resin or trying to dissolve it. Thanks!! -Nate
Observation of 40 nm filler particles should not be a problem, especially if they are radiopaque and contain something like Ba or Zr. FE SEM and carbon coating are best for this task, utilization of BSE detector should help. Some burning of a resin under electron beam should be expected at higher magnifications, so it is better not to stay on the same field of view for a long time. And yes, fracture is good method for specimen preparation.
