I am coducting a PhD research about the effect of change type, method on the change outcomes.(case study about an organization that experiencing a change)
I want to investigate the relationship between the three above mentioned variables and hopping to find a certain relationship that could help to enhance the success of the change outcomes.
I'm not sure what will be the research methodology , how start and what to measure as well as what will be the research question and research hypothesis...any insights for that?
Hi Adnan, although you say a case study, that way you have described it. It appears that you would need to adopt a positivist, deductive approach (e.g., surveys) to test through either SEM/PLS a conceptual model that examines antecedents and consequences

I suggest you use an "Input-Process-Output" framework, as used in any system design and analysis. The inputs could be the individual, team level and organizational factors that are employed in the change process. The processes would be all the planning steps, execution and monitoring. The output would be the change management outcomes envisaged.
To arrive at the factors, you could do a preliminary survey, and finalize the relevant input-process-output factors for your respondents.
You could then design a questionnaire with the relevant factors; and ask the participants of the change management program to rate the importance of a given resource/ process to a given outcome.
This is a general procedure I would suggest. Of course, as you embark on the research and have greater clarity, and can share more details, the methodology can be refined.
Your question suggests that you are delving into an extremely complex set of variables associated with change management and that you have inferred that there are common typologies for change. While it is true that change management begins with a common set of variables, the nature of organizations and the complexity of those variables make understanding "models" of change extremely difficult and context-dependent.
Kotter's change model and Kurt Lewin's Force Field Analysis perspective contain many of the commonly cited factors about change management. Perhaps it is wisest to begin with understanding those models and their elements. The primary reality about change is that people resist changing unless and until they "buy" the assumption that changing will substantially benefit them and will lead to a better set of outcomes.
For those reasons, I am of the opinion that you are biting off a HUGE project or question that you are attempting to address. Perhaps you may wish to narrow your scope and address one or two change-related factors at a time . . . . and build from there. I think you have selected a lifetime research project that certainly is far too large for a legitimate research project or dissertation. You probably have identified a topic that would require being addressed in six or seven new book volumes.

The study is involves a large category of variables. First you will have to identify and classify the variables into broad categories viz. Type of Change and effect/Outcome of Change. At first stage you can collect data and establish validity and reliability and then proceed further. Factorial Designs can also be used to establish causation as you are trying to establish or investigate relation between a stimulus(type of change) and outcome(effect of change).
