Any one can guide me that how can I increase MLSS concentration in aeration tank of Activated sludge process. The pH of influent coming from primary clarifier was 7.1 and after taking water in aeration tank the pH reaches 9.2. The tank is 50% filled and microbial activity in progress. I am adding sugar, cow dung slurry, DAP, Urea and Jaggery.
The inlet COD = 2150 mg/L
BOD = 700 mg/L
TDS= 1800 mg/L
TSS= 900 mg/L
PH= 8
The parameters after dosing of coagulant and floculents are
pH= 7.2
COD= 1300 mg/L
TSS= 350 mg/L
TDS=1800 mg/L
The parameters in 50% filled aeration tanks are
COD= 411 mg/L
TSS =200 mg/L
pH= 9.2
TDS= 4500 mg/L
The quality of bacterial growth or fungi should be checked. As some are resulting in alkaline pH.
Cow dung and Urea might be contributing for pH rise in your system. Just optimize the addition of these two components. The TDS content also increased in your aeration tank that explain you that your accumulating or adding more of inorganic ions. Measure total N and inorganic N contents.

I do not know what means "combined effluent". Is it communal wastewater plus industrial wastewater, or is it a mix of various industrial wastewaters or something else?
Very important could be the pollutants to be treated. Their metabolites can increase pH.
Do you have any idea what is nitrogen and phosphorus concentration in wastewater? They are also important parameters.

Thank you very much for explanation. It means that there are many pollutants to be removed. Do you know what is dissolved oxygen concenztration in aeration tank. If there an oxygen limitation exists in the aeration tank the production of NH3 could be reason for pH increase.
