Both processes are linearly related to the extend that photosynthesis rate (carbon fixation) is equivalent to oxygen evolution. However, under certain circumstances the two processes decouple. I am looking for references or articles that support the equivalency of the relationship between oxygen evolution and photosynthesis rate.

Thank you for your time answering this question. I asked the question to this forum based on a comment I got from a reviewer of a paper I am writing. He said that the rate of oxygen evolution measured with an oxygen electrode was not really equivalent to the rate of carbon assimilation. However, oxygen evolution is stoichiometrically equivalent to the rate of carbon fixation. I acknowledge that under certain scenarios (i.e., high temperatures, and nutrient and water stress) carbon fixation and oxygen evolution could decouple because respiration rate could increase. I couldn´t find a reference supporting these scenarios.
Hi Kenneth, thanks again for your input. The question made reference to photosynthetic rates, and whether the rate of oxygen evolution is equivalent or not to the rate of carbon fixation. I couldn´t find an actual paper showing a decoupling of these two processes other than marginal references mentioned in some papers. At any rate, the ms got finally accepted. However, I remained curious about scenarios for decoupling the rate of oxygen evolution and the rate of carbon fixation. Perhaps the whole issue rotates around the meaning of assimilation and fixation. Thanks again.
