The earliest relics of cupellation process have so far been found from Iran, Turkey, and Syria. But how do we know, if the process was performed for extraction of gold and/or silver from the ore?
I already know that some works have already been done on Arisman cupellation relics by Perncka et al. 2011.

I have learned a lot about antique gold from Edilberto Formiglieg, (e.g., antique gold granulation and other technique). Whether he deals with cupellation, I do not know, but it's certainly worth a try.

Özbal, King Croesus´ Gold. Excavations at Sardis and the history of gold refining. Archaeological Exploration at Sardis, Monographs 11 ([London 2000]), which was already cited in the Arisman publication. Although it is quite a different time-period, it does also discuss the cuppellation of gold.
