The EC is mainly known for high-level policy making and for funding scientific research. However, the processes that facilitate this work use and produce a rich set of data, information and knowledge that might be worth to re-use by public and private organizations, as well as individuals. At the same time, the gathering and preparation of scientific evidence might very well benefit from citizens contributions to research (aka citizen science). In this context, I am wondering if the European Commission (EC) would come up with a Citizen Science Platform, what could be expected, hoped for, and what should be avoided? Any thoughts?
