Does somebody know if Hybrid motors are under developement for general aviation? I mean a motor where the power coming from the Internal Combustion Engine, ICE, (doesn't matter if gasoline, diesel or turbo) is mixed with the power coming fom an electric motor.
There are several projects under development by companies, like Rolls-Royce, Siemens, GE, MTU Aero, and also by start-ups, like Ampaire. Hybrid-electric propulsion systems up to 200 kW are more advanced and predicted to be certified in 2021-22. For larger aircraft, it would take longer, since weight differences require more planning and testing on a large aircraft.
