I would rather call it visionary since future is already here;) I will be attending a panel with practising journalists and multimedia reporters today; just thought I might get diversified views from a few colleagues here. Thanks for your time.
The future of journalism is "multi-platform." Journalists can no longer be channelized to only one medium -- newspaper, TV, etc.
Today's stories must span the different media types. The same reporter must prepare content for multiple platforms, such as a TV report, a radio report, Internet, Twitter feed, etc.
Another important future of journalism is "backpack journalism." We no longer have the luxury of waiting for the reporter to return to the studio or newsroom to prepare the story. Writing, video editing, Internet posting, etc., must all be done from the "field" location.
These priorities also fit together, as "multi-platform backpack journalism."
Michael W. Marek has right - what is more, internet journalist often must be also editor or graphic designer (all in one) because in some redaction there is no place (money/budget) for such workers.
In addition I think, that the future is:
- drone journalism
- Data journalism (with creatiing a graphs, statistic pictures) example: Wikileaks
Thanks for all your comments. How about immersive journalism through which the reader experiences 360 news-reporting on a personalized basis? The content is also in frequent update and the reade has a one-one relation with the news outlet? It seems close enough with the development of semantic web, collaborative platforms as well as crowd sourced participatory sharing of multimedia.
A new article published with related insight: "Reflect-in-action" principle of today's journalist and the case studies presented to represent the evolutionary paradigm are worth the attention. Highly recommended.
