I think this best time to encourage nurses to focus on career development by increasing their research efforts as well as looking on the gaps in the Healthcare systems worldwide and lead the change that's will happen in the couple of years.
- A specialized course about infection outbreak and pandemic througth the history should be included as a course or at least it as a topic.
- one course in the curriculum should be designed to be taught online.
- guidelines for reuseing and extended use of PPE sould be taught.
Good, comprehensive, holistic nursing education is essential. I would highlight comprehensive not just in theoretical approach. Nurses' learning is life long and it covers not only official learning in medical schools. My deep belief is that all nurses should go through rotation in various wards during the first year or two after medical school (paid internship duration of 3 months per each assigned area with an assigned senior nurse as a responsible preceptor). From ICU to community care, from inpatient to outpatient (not opposite). Skills and competencies that are needed can be obtained through practice only and only if the nurse gains her/his skills while working and doing things, we may expect good, confident, skilled nursing staff.
Moreover, whoever wants to enroll her/himself to become a nurse, should go through an emotional assessment (to show maturity in emotional intelligence) as we are witnesses nowadays how much emotional stability is important in doing our job.

Some sort of rudimentary epidemiology will be introduced to understand the spread if infectious diseases among various types of population. I also think infection prevention becoming more of a core skill.
I think the challenge post covid-19 will be in maintaining a high proportion of face-face staff training. There is a risk I believe in an over reliance on the cheaper e-learning option. While I agree that e-learning has a place within in house ( hospital) nurse education, it generally shows the positive, best practice in an ideal world with simple clear scenarios. Face to face training deals more with the practicalities of interactions with people. It also creates a safe space for staff to discus the wider aspects of their role, the issues that affects their ability / emotional resilience to cope with the unexpected and extraordinary events encountered.
hi, i guess this is the time for us nurses to open our eye widely not only in local practice, but to internationally how others use standard guidelines, various surveillance to make things better in place. sharpen our infections control measures and nurse on ground realize the important of theory put into practice correctly.
The impact of Covid 19 on over all Education is very high especially on Medical and health sciences educations.Thus, covid 19 has both opportunity and negative impact on Nursing education especially it has significant advantage for research purpose and communicable disease prevention because world wide a lot of health care providers were passed away due to this pandemic diseases, Nurses are the most front line health care workers but the percentage of nurses death is very low when to compare with physician this differences may indicate that nurses has been practice infection practice than physician. Therefore this covid 19 pandemic may reshape Nursing education and give direction for us to focused on communicable diseases which be holistic.
It will certainly require a broader discussion of global health, something we already discuss in my courses. in terms of the curriculum, students will still need to complete at least 50% of their clinical hours in the real clinical setting, while the rest can be virtual (simulation, case studies, alternative virtual scenarios). In our area, students we’re not allowed in the clinical settings for a number of reasons: lack of enough PPE, mitigation of risk (both to students and faculty, but also those “non-essential” people from bringing the virus into healthcare facilities). Our hope is to be back in the clinical settings this fall, but we are still waiting to hear. The boards of nursing dictate the requirements regarding clinical and curriculum requirements, as well as acredidating agencies, so it’s not as simple as going “just go virtual”. Nothing can truly replace hands on clinical experiences in my opinion.
I am sorry, my Eglish is not good because I am french speak, I think they can do it as other education departments, only on the theory part of nursing, but the problem it will be on the practice part of nursing because many hospitals have canceled clinical rotations for nursing students to preserve PPE for caregivers and safeguard students and patients. I think, if they cancel with a clinical rotation we don't know wish kind of student we will produce in the future, as you know many student nurses are complaining about what they were taught, they are no following it in the clinical rotation exactly as they were taught them in theory, I don't know in the future if we will be able to find the student nurses with knowledge and skills like before. or either they can produce more video according to the curriculum of each year of students about simulation setting and send to the students.
Great question! It has certainly made us rethink what are the core aspects that require face to face learning. I do agree with Sharon regarding the over reliance on e-learning but the determination of which learning modality for what type of learning is a crucial discussion point we need to be having from a risk perspective to our staff and our patients from the basics of infection prevention regarding droplet and aerosol spread to donning and doffing PPE for intubation procedures by simulation.

E-learning has become the new norm with students and lecturers adopting change within the shortest time period. Redesigning the course syllabus,strategies in delivering desired concepts through on line is a sudden 360 degrees rotation of nursing education.The main issue now is the actual handling of patient by the students in the clinical setting.Theory can be delivered online with a good strategy but the Practice aspect is now a problem because we cannot gauge their competence in terms of Skills. The problem is ,we need to wait for another months until students are allowed to go on clinical duty. Case analysis is not enough specially for graduating students.

If isolation is to become our primary defence against unknown virus and resistant bacteria, should we not be considering returning to isolation units or even hospitals. Focusing on single rooms within general hospitals puts extra strain on already overstretched staff and is no defence for any unknown or airborne transmission.
Nursing is a skill-based profession although knowledge is an important factor in building the psychomotor competencies of a student, the lack of experiential learning may result in a decrease in skills competency as well as the integration of critical thinking skills in doing such measures or procedure. Virtual learning may be a band-aid solution but will not replace the importance of clinical exposure in totality. Screening and segregation protocols should be placed in its strictest implementation before we say it's safe to return back to how clinical training is pre-covid.

COVID 19 is not well known and the medical community is still struggling to control it.
Our nurses are the strong pillars and work side by side with the doctors to help the patients. In my humble opinion, nurses in this state can be segregated into a special team for dealing with COVID 19 only after getting proper training that includes triaging, sampling, and early response to deal with suspected cases with a checklist along with the doctors as a team.
Training can be at a multi-dimensional level. From online courses, training at patient level who are at low risk, and later to enhance the level of training, generating eligibility certificates and also giving them the badge which shows that this nurse belongs to the COVID 19 pandemic dealing team.
Nursing education and training is been markedly transformed due to COVID_19 situation. The already troubled industry especially in Pakistan is facing more intense situation. Nursing students in the lab are able to practice their skills as before (fundamental and health assessments). Problem is for the students in the clinical settings as they are not allowed in all specialities. Learning is compromised as well as compensated by OSCE. Theory classes and examination by remote learning has stimulated situations of cheating. Hope we will come back to normal routines soon.

The virtual platform that we in the nursing education is using in the Philippines has changed the hands on clinical exposure of nursing students. Different strategies to suffice the related learning experience of students are being done by clinical instructors not as a supplemental but as a new strategies for remote learning. By doing so, nursing students learn by utilizing their critical thinking ability but the faculty handling them should process it during their interactive discussion.
