Homework can be a valuable tool for learning, but after corona paramedic, students that they could ask for help from parents or relatives. How a teacher can use a tool or way to assess?
In my personal experience, in virtual classes, students has changed their relationship with homework. I give them "active" homework in order to participate to the following class. If they don't do their homework, it's unworthy to attend classes. And during a virtual class it's not easy to improvise or to look at the classmate's book. I teach Italian language and culture. In my virtual classes, I give priority to written and oral expression. I ask students to study grammar alone, I give them solutions for grammar exercices and I dedicate one part of the class to discuss with them about their homework. I will see if it works from the exams results.
Thank you Sabina Gola, I am teaching Mathematic very difficult from virtual learning but I try the best because primary school parents or relatives can help them about solutions.
Appreciating your enthusiasm in exploring into this new mode. Challenges are inevitable. We need to pass through and the experience gains will give fruit.
Hi! This is a great question. I wanted to share a strategy that I have seen employed where a time limit is given for an assignment to be completed. If a student is required to successfully complete a task at a synchronous and limited time, the availability of outside support is similarly limited and the result is receiving student data that is a more accurate picture of how well they understand the content.
Vail Hilbert Hi, your answer very helpful for me now, I have a test for mathematic around 30 questions in time 1 hour at the objective choice answer. I give online learning test. for my problem now objective test more bias. how i can conduct? this is my problem.
The Covid-19 pandemic forced the introduction of a lot of innovation in the field of teaching and learning. one of the challenges is the evaluation of learning. In my opinion, the best way to assess is to allow the learner to put more emphasis on his critical thinking and his creativity.
I see no harm if the parents help a bit their kids with their remote homework! As educators, is our aim to deliver knowledge OR the help our students ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE? If you do agree with the second suggestion (help students acquire knowledge), then if the parents help their kids WITH giving explanations then I think no harm for that. Besides, for technical questions within a limited time for the answers, I think even with parents' help, students would not have enough time!. Just an Opinion!
I do agree Chuthamar Suwanmani , there is no doubt that the whole teaching paradigm needs some thorough upgrades with the remote learning system. Thank you for your thought-provoking question.
As you develop methods for assessing your students consider the following:
1. Include indirect and direct assessments as well as formative and summative assessments.
2. Evaluate whether or not the assessment aligns directly with a learning outcome.
3. Make sure the measurement is sustainable and reasonable in terms of time and resources, both for the students and the instructors (e.g., grading, response time, and methods). To estimate the time that students need to complete different assignments.
4. Considering using a mid-semester student survey, through the Center's Mid-Semester Feedback Program.
5. Use the results of the assessments to improve the course. Examples include revising course content in terms of depth vs. breadth, realignment between goals and teaching methods, employment of more appropriate assessment methods, or effective incorporation of learning technologies.
I think that this can be done by making reports after every lecture the teacher gives .. and applying the idea of the lecture in something practical in life ..
As for the exams, I think it should be through an open book .. based on discussion and clarification instead of mentioning and counting points
Learning whether virtual or otherwise should aim towards achieving the objectives and also the required knowledge/skills. What is needed is to assess whether the student acquired them.
