Does anyone would advise me how to write reliable reviews of doctoral dissertations / habilitation thesis. What to look for and what mistakes not to make?
Dear @Beata, I am sure you will write very reliable review of Ph.D dissertation or habilitation thesis. No doubt. Many Universities have a certain guidelines for reviewers. I have attached some good resources, one is from your country, and I do think it will help.
If you happen to go through the rationales and explanations given by various authors, you would easily understand what you need to look carefully to review when you had an opportunity sit in an external review panel in a PhD defense.
In Mathematics, what's not published - does not exist
This holds true everywhere. For a good work is review easier, of course. If you see some problems, well you think about it, do not hurry to conclusions. You should clearly describe any criticism, and it may not be easy.
Right Dear George, we in Poland are also obligated to publish habilitation thesis in social sciences (e.g. education). Many well prepared PhD thesis are also published. My question concerned the problem was: how to review the scientific work which is PhD or habilitation thesis, when you are appointed to be a member of commission and reviewer of works for scientific promotion ? Because I needed answers, I participaed in scientific worhshop tit. Scientific Promotions in Warsaw, in October 2015 and know, that there exist many traps for reviewers caused unfortunately by authors of thesis. I'm learning all the time.
