I am in process of writing my first conceptual paper, need your help in identifying the key ingredients to write a conceptual paper where no empirical data OR case study is available.
Please read - MacInnis (2011), which is a seminal paper on writing conceptual papers in marketing, but equally applicable to other areas. All the best!
it is always difficult to publish a conceptual paper, since there is not a generic structure as in example casestudy research. What I normally do is to identify the journal in which I would like to publish my future paper, and then see the existing conceptual papers in here for structure, length, building arguments, etc. This has worked for me... Also, there are some great references that are always good to use such as Whettens 1989 article ”what constitutes a theoretical contribution”..
Have you thought about introducing a conceptual model depending on your previous knowledge and literature? Then you may test that model in your following empirical paper.
