Hello all,
I am modeling a column in OpenSees using the Bond _SP01 (Strain Penetration) material to consider the slippage of the column footing. The program runs well, however, when I plot the column top displacement vs lateral force I get the exact Force-Displacement curve as the model without the Bond_SP and zero length section, while I think I should get more lateral displacement when using strain penetration material!
Does anyone know why the results of modeling w/ and w/o BondSP ZeroLengthSection are equal? Is there a point to this that I am missing?

Check your units. Bond_SP01 work only for ksi and inches, as far as I know.

Ahmad Soraghi Hello, I have the same confusion.In Zhao's literature, the displacement of pier top with and without bond in the "Bridge T-joint System" is not much different. However, it is mentioned in some literatures that the displacement caused by bond slip can account for 30%-40% of the displacement of pier top.Do you have an answer or idea?How do I think about the proportion of each component on the opensees mid-pier top displacement?Looking forward to your reply!
