I want to establish communication between KEPServerEX and Siemens S7-313-c2-DP PLC using Siemens serial MPI cable (order no. : 6ES7 901-0BF00-0AA0). To do so, I was trying to download the PLC program through serial MPI cable. I have also tried different configurations of PG/PC interface for the serial MPI cable. However, I encountered errors in each case. So, what is the procedure to establish communication between serial MPI cable and Siemens S7-313-C2-DP PLC? Thank you.
I believe you have a USB cable (adapter to your MPI cable) to connect it to your PC. This will automatically detect your PLC as a new hardware to your PC.
@Renann No, it The MPI cable I have used is having DB-9 connector on both the sides. The reason for using this old cable is that the almost all the OPC servers support serial communication on DB-9 connector instead of USB.

1- PG/PC interfaces are not working on Windows Vista, 7 and 8 (definitely not on 64-bit OS). Try to install Windows XP on your system or install a VMware Workstation and then install XP windows.
2- install the Siemens PG/PC interface drivers and STEP-7 on the XP platform
3- go to " control panel > setting the PG/PC interface"
4- select PC Adaptor (MPI)
5- check the wire's connection to PLC (** port 1 or 2 **) , network address and baud rate
6- restart your PLC
7- on PCL explorer check the communication,
see the attachment.

Hi, it is NOT possible to connect to PLC using MPI cable and RS-232 serial port of Your PC.
You need PCI card for MPI/Profibus DP connection (SIEMENS Profibus PCI Card 6GK1561-1AA01) or USB to MPI/Profibus DP adapter (6ES7972-0CB20-0XA0 or 6GK1571-1AM00).
@Ali I am working on Windows XP on VMWare. Right now, it shows "online communication adapter link damaged" I will check out the attachment though.
@Michal I think it is possible since most of the OPC servers support the serial MPI for Siemens PLC. I have MPI cable (6ES7 901-0BF00-0AA0) with me. What's your take on it?
@Ankur, I repeat it is not possible to connect to MPI from conventional COM port of Your PC. You definitely need protocol converter - RS232 to MPI, or USB to MPI, or PCI card.
Hi, if you are having too much trouble and don't have the required cards like the others have mentioned, why don't you just use an ethernet cable for communication.
@Awo Yes, Ethernet is good advice, but Ankur has PLC - Siemens S7-313-C2-DP, this PLC does not have ProfiNET port, only MPI and ProfiBUS DP, so for connecting the PLC to Ethernet or ProfiNET he would need communication processor card for PLC. The result is, that he needs to get some of the before mentioned hardware anyway.
@Michal Thanks for your input. I have realized the limitations and since I could manage the Vipa 315-2 SB PLC with CP343-1 ethernet lean module, I transferred my work on it and hence solved my problem.

You need to use USB / MPI adapter.
But if you are using Sİemens Field PG , that is already inserted in computer.
