One way would be to generalize from a set of observations (induction) and then use the generalization together with auxilliary assumptions to entail (deduction) a prediction.
My thises is about using internal social networking among academic staffs.
i want to do grounded theory (qualitative) and Survey(quantitative) but actually these two are two different routes and i dont know what method i need to use to go for both of them?
I follow Karl' idea. You can depart from a set of observation, and the formutate a given hypothesis, which can be corroborated of falsifed. As you go from the particular to the general you are resorting to induction, which can be both qualitative and quantitative. Once you get a theory you can dervive another theory, hyothesis and the like, of the first theory and here you have deduction. In he fabric of doing science you can also resort to abductive logic, which is, is in the last analysis a form of analogical resoning.
