How to test the joint effect of two independent variables on a dependent variable? When and how do we test the invariance of a model?

I have two questions relating to analyzes of statistical data.

1) How to test the joint effect of two independent variables on a dependent variable? Does the analysis of the interaction effect between two independent variables allow us to see how these variables act simultaneously on a dependent variable?

2) When and how do we test the invariance of a model? And what are the indices which make it possible to judge the invariance of the model?
