Can anyone tell me how to synthesize spherical gold nanoparticles exhibiting surface plasmon characteristics? Currently I am using pulsed laser deposition technique to synthesize gold thin island film but all I get is truncated ellipsoids and truncated spheres.

Hi,
Apart from the energy of the evaporated species, the final morphology of gold nanostructures can also depend on the type of substrate used for PLD. The energy can be lowered by introducing inert gas (like Ar) in the deposition chamber, for example.
