I need to sterilize a big amount of soil in order to plant seeds inoculated with pgpr.
The problem is that I have only an oven that can hold at the same time about 20 kg and go up to 200°C. I must do it in the shortest possible time.
If it exist an othor way to sterilize soil for inoculated seed i will be interrested in know it

Yes, I agree fully with Dr. Srivastava, if you dont have any autoclave then it is better to go for in field soil solarisation technique where after moistening the soil you may cover by black polythene sheets during summer months to sterile the soil in-situ. This technique is very useful in arid and semi-arid areas when ambient temperature is above 40 degree Celcius.

Thank you for your answar, but we are in winter and the temperature is around 5°C and i don"t have a lot of time, is there another way to sterilize more than 1000 kg?
Your quarry is very good. Dr Tarafdar , we had discussion earlier on this issue. If you have a situation like this , where you want to sterilize soil on such a large scale , especially during the winter , what could be the possibility of soils to be sterilized. Many researchers still believe that you can sterilize soil under any given condition , since most important is , what temperature you build up inside the ( to be ) solarized mixture in relation to outside temperature...
Although solarization is one of the option for for killing pathogens, but the most appropriate method is fumigation. we should make a a heap of the soil, moisten it and the sprinkle formaldehyde and cover it with a polythene. keep it for two-three days and then turn over the soil with spade and repeat the process. this process can be done even at low temperature.

Temperature is better . In your cases definitively , the most appropiate method is fumigation with formaldheyde.
Method of sterilization to be adopted depends on the purpose. For example, if the purpose is to experiment the effect of specific microbes such as AM sp on roots of specific crops, autoclave is the only option.
I agree with Dr. Srivastava. Sunlight UV is quite effective in sterilization of larges amounts of soil. But remember to make a thin layer because this radiation does not penetrates more than a few cms.
Another option is to use forest soil or ravine soil because these soils are in ecological balance, there is no predominance of any microorganism.
In a clearing in the forest the leaves and branches are removed and the soil is then collected at a depth of 20 cm and used without any treatment being required.
I need to inoculate my plant with AM so the best for this one is the high temperature, but i have two other microorganisms i think the soil need to be sterilize with the same method?!
