I had 15 genotypes of sorghum planted in 6 replications. There was pre-harvest grain yield loss by birds that made it difficult to compare these genotypes based on yield performance. Is there any statistical approach to quantify this loss?
Possibly you can use the "Loss function" of Taguchi that finds the indexes and parameters where a production begins to have losses due to quality failures (it was originally focused on the production of automobiles). Also, as I understand you have already harvested it, you can look for other investigations where they indicate percentages of loss and take them as a base. Although this would reduce your credibility a little when publishing, it would not be a fatal mistake.
