Hello there. I am new to research and my research area is about "Energy Management System in Microgrid".
I had already studied some research papers to have a better understanding on that particular area. Generally, I understand the papers. However, I feel like something is still missing. Every time I study a paper, I didn't know what is the thing that I should analyze and what is the key point to take note.
Also, I find it hard to see the (at the bigger picture) what researcher on that area are trying to solve and what are the factors being considered.
With that said, may I know how should I start my research ?
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Rong Wee Ng Forgive me if this is no help. I am not familiar with your area of study, however, I run studies all the time and always start with the literature. One thing I found helpful is to look at their methods and then I tend to learn new ways of studying the phenomenon. I was once studying habit formation and adapted lab methods to an online method for example. I tend to look at the discussion first as it often seems less technical and then I go back to the meaty part. I love the intro section to get other references that might lead me down a different/similar path. Hope this helps.

Thats absolutely understandable in the beginning stages of your research and am sure many researchers can relate with it.
For your chosen field of study,
1. I will recommend you to CiteSpace Software to help you find a cluster of key research articles that have been published and related to the chosen field.
2. When reading such articles, try to find out what key problem the article seeks to address. This mostly can be found getting to the latter parts of the literature review of the article. In most cases it is the objective of the study.
3. Further, look at the methodology that the paper used in addressing that particular problem identified.
4. Think through if you are working on a similar paths or related to what you are intending to do. Adjust or narrow your research scope if necessary.

This is actually normal for beginners. There are a lot of sites you can download papers pertaining to your research. You can try google scholar and publish or perish software and type in keywords concerning the research you want to undertake.
Pay much attention to the abstract of that paper you have downloaded.
This summarizes the whole work into a few lines. It gives the background of the study, outlines the problem, and the methodology employed to execute the work and lastly, it shows the relevance of that work. After reading through the abstract you will be much informed whether to read the full paper or not. This really helps and saves time.
Before starting a new research project, in my opinion, once the project scoping stage is completed is the most important step, you should be well versed with the latest technology. Only when you have a good overview, you can decide where you can make your own contribution and discover the modernity that you can add in this field .. We usually give our students some introductory literature. Accordingly, they are required to conduct a more detailed literary review.
