Hi!

Recently, I found an interesting article, titled "Abeywickrama, S., Zhang, R., Wu, Q., & Yuen, C. (2020). Intelligent Reflecting Surface: Practical Phase Shift Model and Beamforming Optimization", in https://doi.org/10.1109/tcomm.2020.3001125

I found it may help me achieve my goals in verifying reconfigurable intelligent surface-aided MU-MIMO communication simulation.

This article would make a really positive contribution to my work.

Especially, the paper investigates the Practical Phase Shift Model in a multi-user setup and considers two efficient algorithms to solve the multiuser beamforming optimization problem suboptimally. And then, I have some questions about this work.

Q1:

How to use those two algorithms (section-V. B Extended Penalty-Based Algorithm and section-V.C Two-Stage Algorithm) to solve the modulus constraint problem (Not equal to 1) in the Practical Phase Shift Model (while constant modulus constraint in ideal phase shift models)?

Q2:

How to design and implement corresponding programs in the system model?

In other words, I have some difficulties understanding them. I maybe need to understand this framework's source code to establish the effect of active beamforming and passive beamforming in RIS-aided MIMO communication.

It will do great help to me if you could provide me with some more detailed guidelines or some examples.

I am looking forward to your reply.

Best regards,

Meng
