I am working on reverse Brayton cryocooler. In order to carry out dynamic analysis, I have to set either U or UA for the heat exchanger. As geometry is fixed for the heat exchanger, how to set U for the plate-fin heat exchanger in Aspen HYSYS in the dynamic case to study the start-up and shut down behavior.

You may calculate the U using the method described in Cryogenic Heat Transfer by RF Barron and specify. In this method, the calculated U will be lower (as I have also found) than the actual value due to the assumptions.
You may also use the simulation option in Aspen HTFS (MUSE) (If you have) and calculate the U and other performance parameters by specifying the geometry you have. The accuracy of the calculated value will be very much dependent on the property data method used.
