I have a 5000 cubic meter per hours water stream which contains about 0.1% suspension of magnetite. The particles size are ranged between 3 to 30 microns. Any idea? Hydro-cyclones? Magnetic field? or...?
I'd go with a strong magnet or sets of magnets combined with settling. If you can hold the material in a tank even for some period of time such as 2 minutes, the dense (~ 5.5 g/cm3) magnetite will sediment significantly. In a house water supply we'd pull this out with a coarse filter too. Hydrocyclone is not likely to be easy or viable here. What would you be happy with as the amount of residual Fe3O4 after processing?
Some calculated settling times for a particle of density 5.5 g/cm3 are attached. So even allowing the material to settle for 2 minutes will remove virtually all of it.
