A lots of Lithium Metal Foils are used for battery research, most of the quantities are remain unused even after completing the study with it. Those Lithium foils, from a cycled Half cell LIB ( Assembled for R&D ) are contaminated with several biproducts, produced during battery cycling. We can't use those Li-Foils directly. what should be the best way to reuse those Lithium foils or Recover The Li Metal from Those Foils?
Here's one option: I'm told that a piece of lithium foil can be sacrificed as a nitrogen detector/capture in an argon glovebox (since most gloveboxes only detect/filter O2 and H2O, while N2 can react with Li and passivate its surface). To use recovered Li, I would scratch away some of the surface first to expose the shiny part underneath. Over time, it will turn black as it reacts with N2 in the glovebox. Hang it somewhere high up in the glovebox since N2 will be lighter than Ar.
