When requests come in for copies of papers that I published last century (well, going back to the 1980's), and all was hard copy then, what should one do? I don't have digital copies, nor the time to go and find hard copy journals in library and pdf them. Thanks.

If you don't have the time and opportunity (friends, students, co-author, library staff) to get hold of the requested article, then I would send an appropriate answer (as your last sentence of the original question) to let the emquirer know of your situation.
