Hi, I would like to ask if anyone encountered before this issue. I am trying to modify natural coconut fibers (for polymer composite application for my colleagues) and I was asked if I can estimate the plasma effects on fiber. Up to now I have only FTIR spectrometer available (ATR unit). I tried simply to press the fiber to diamond crystal (untreated and treated) and normalize spectra in absorbance to see if there is any changes in peak structure (the spectrum is rather complicated) before and after treatment. The untreated spectra tested on many samples showed that though it is a natural fiber, the FTIR spectrum is stable. But after plasma modification (argon plasma only, so expected to have some new bonds), some samples showed a certain differences, some not. I tried to repeat procedure with single fiber, or a flock of fibers (only few or lots), the result was same. Some measurements showed some differences in FTIR spectrum, but it was not reproducible. Maybe someone know about a way (or trick) how to prepare these fibres to get more reliable measurements? Thanks
