i am new to Image processing. i have few doubts in this area, first, when we extract a parts of a face image (say, Eyes, Nose etc.,) what we actually get? is that matrix with pixel values? i have read some good papers, but i could not find the process of extraction (Algorithm). second, What is a feature vector? is it row sum? or mean values of pixels? I have no idea about these things. please some one help me. most of them are saying Computer vision system toolbox, i have installed it. it has some predefined functions but i want to know how it works?
Is there any book which have details of these things.
Hi, ok, it seems to me that you are really a novice in this research area. Therefore, I do strongly recommend that you first study the basics on Image processing an Machine Learning. Otherwise, you will not be able to handle applications on face recognition.

There are many features are in image. The basic feature is mean, standard deviation, entropy and so on. First extract theses features and make feature vector.
Ex: A is an image then x1,x2,x3 (mean, standard deviation, entropy) are features and then form feature vector
