I want to see the effect of LULC change on rainfall over the Indian region. So, want to know how we can replace the default urban LULC with crop land LULC in WRF. Please some one suggest me how to do that in WRF? Presently I am using MODIS data.

I recommend you use read_wrf_nc which is described in chapter 10 of the WRF user's guide:

You can apply a SPECIAL option (-EditData VAR) to your files.
You can read a WRF netCDF file, change a specific field, and write it BACK into the WRF netCDF file.

Thanks for such a nice answer. Sir, will you please tell me how I can locate the position of a grid location in that WRF file before using -EditData VAR? Is it the actual longitude and latitude range of the grid location or a different set of value as generated using 'query w2xy ' function in GrADS software?
In addition, there is one more option I found in the WRF tutorials.
ncap2 -O -s 'LU_INDEX(:,y1:y2,x1:x2)=7;' geo_em.d01.nc geo_em.d01.nc
The above code also can be used to replace the lu_index of a grid location. But, the problem again is, what is the y1:y2 and x1:x2, is it the actual lon lat range or the position of the grid location in the image as generated using 'query w2xy ' function in grads?
My understanding is that x1, x2, y1 and y2 are grid locations. You can get more detailed information by emailing [email protected] or [email protected]
Yes, they are the grid locations based on the [row range, column range] of the NetCDF file instead of their 'latitude and longitude' or x, y position as shown in GrADS. Thanks, the problem is solved.
