I think you need to know where are teens spending their money (Food - clothes ........) and try to go there instead of festivals and events. and you can try to give simple gifts for them, it many help you to attract them.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far.

Is this a general or a specific question focussed on a study you are developing? If gereal, teachers must learn how to teach basic research methods to children as part of their course work. Ideally this can be integrated across subjects and the development of analytical and writing skills. If specific, I would ask teachers to recommend for your research project students who have shown an ability to think laterally and to communicate their ideas.

We are looking for teens at risk for obesity for one study and teens for another study to examine stress effects. The eligibility criteria for the first study are strict and more flexible for the second one. We had success recruiting families with younger children from the community ( 5-10 years old) using classic methods of recruitment. But it seems difficult to recruit adolescents (10-17 years old). The local school district is not very helpful.

what i did for 10 years

1. contact near by BANKS to sponsor a science exhibition and ask students to present their exhibits - they sponsor awards

2. science teachers are to motivated to guide locally relevant issues

like analysis of water for toxic chemicals, hazardous ions like cyanide and so on

3.teachers must be trained by local porfessors in their vacation

4. invite their parents too and tell them about research carriers

Have you thought of recruiting adolescents for research from other institutions where they interact? For example, Girls & Boys Clubs, Girl and Boy Scouts, 4F, or there organisations for youth in your target communities.. If the school district is not supportive, their must be alternatives?

Recruit them by identifying places like schools but work with educators, sport clubs etc
