I have created a lulc map of my study area. I want to reclassify some pixels into different category(already enlisted in lulc), not change the entire category. I have heard about the " recoding" tool in Erdas Imagine. Is there any similar functioning tool in ArcGIS? I have heard of Reclassify tool but for what i know they reclassify the entire category. What i am looking for is to change a certain portion of that respective category.

ArcGIS is the easiest for pixel reclassification
On the arctoolbox, > Go to the Spatialanalyst toolbox> reclassifiy tool.
Then it will provide you all the avalaible image pixel values, you can the reclassify them using unique values or by thresholding.

From what I understand, you don't want to reclassify all the classes of LULC that you have generated. If that is the case, You can use reclassify tool in ArcMap and give distinct values for those classes that you want to be reclassified and one single value same for all other classes. This gives an output of raster with the number of classes you wanted plus one class which is for all the other classes you did not want.
