We have a very dense topography file (text- xyz format) that we will use to build a medium resolution DEM. We have used gOcad to decimate the file. The problem is that this takes so much time
Is there a freeware that allows us to do this faster??

Have you looked into the spatial tools and extensions available in R? I don't have a direct answer for you. But, you can probably find something using the R-Geo framework. More details at https://geodacenter.asu.edu/software. Good luck.
GRASS GIS r.in.xyz is VERY fast. It can create a DEM from millions of LiDAR points in a few seconds. And of course it is free and open-source
If you have access to a Mac or Unix flavor machine (or Cygwin on PC), you can use the sed and awk command languages to parse a file VERY easily and quickly. It takes a little while to get the syntax down, but there are a lot of help references and command references to help.
Also, if you want to go straight to DEM, look up LasTools (there is an ArcGIS toolbox) and go from there--that has great capabilities and is very fast as well.
I would also suggest to use the terminal (awk and sed commands), it will probably be the fastest...
Another test that I would try would by to use Generic Mapping Tool (GMT) that (1) is free and very powerful to plot maps, and (2) can convert an .xyz file to a .grd file with a grid spacing that you can choose (xyz2grd command). Anyhow, GMT is also working within the terminal, so if you're not familiar with command lines, it can be a bit time consuming at the beginning... Good Luck !
