I would look a sucrose and iodexonal gradients. Cesium is great to purify complete DNA packaged particles, but not so great at purifying proheads and/or tails.

The best way to go about this would be to track down the old amber KO's of T4 capsid, then just infect a wildtype (non-amber suppressor) strain. No heads made will obviously reduce prohead contamination.
