Dear Mike, Thank you for your message. I found it very valuable and useful. Indeed, declining of Academic Standards in Higher Education is quite universal problem and there are many factors that may have impact on each individual student. Apart from the suggestions you mentioned, it is important to profile and understand each student individually, while making sure that his or her learning experience is best possible and yet properly assessed and cultivated. Side by side with students it is also essential to make sure that Faculty-Instructors are well prepared and trained to deliver a best quality education in each class for all students. Indeed, this a a ongoing quest for all of us as educators, scholars, researchers, professionals, as well as for all students.
Motivate, inspire and train to be inquisitive and desire to master the subject. All educators starting from Elementary, High-school and above should do that.
It is clear that this is a global problem, in some countries more than in others, depending to a large extent on investment.
The evaluation processes to which the current university is submitted become a very appropriate way of proceeding in this regard.
These evaluative processes, however, have a certain tendency to generalize in terms of their procedures.
In this way, there are university systems that operate in a very specific economic and social context, and even so, they aspire to implement regulations of highly developed countries.
In this case, a globalizing perspective works.
Such a procedure does not actually contribute to preventing the decline of academic standards in higher education, on the contrary, it causes exoduses of human capital. That is, the fact of having to work, very hard, to achieve an education of excellence that, definitely, at the moment can not be achieved, causes professional confusion
Human capital is the essential protagonist of the improvement of academic standards.
You have to work with good planning in this regard, there are, however, good experiences.
