I am working in remote areas away from laboratory services. It takes hours to get the samples to the laboratory. Most blood parameters start to change as soon as the blood samples are taken from the animals. Is there a means that can used to preserve samples and retain the true values of the blood parameters? I have seen the VIC in Arusha work with a refrigerator that can be plugged into the vehicle (via 9v plug). I'm not sure if this will be of assistance in this case... Which parameters were you referring to?
It will depend how much time you take to reach the laboratory with the samples. U can try with vaccine carrier boxes packed with gel packs which will maintain the cold for few hours in good state.
You can store it in -20°C or -80°C. But do the estimation as early as possible.
For hematology fresh blood needed, for that heparin tube should be used, 2 ml syringe is using to draw the blood from caudal vein of fish or ear from rabbit.
During blood collection heparin tube can be kept in Ice box and immediately carry out the hematological analysis.
For biochemical test fresh blood should be collected in heparin free tube and keep for at least 6 hours. After centrifuge serum will be collected for biochemical test and may be kept in -70 OC for further use.
